Use the Flask of Homunculus to make a copy of Tama and play Sword of the Necromancer in 2-Player mode! #screenshotsaturday #gamedev #indiedev #indiegame #gamemaker /AatW6tFqCdĪnd it was a success! Both at FIMP and at NiceOne many people came to play to our booth and had a great time playing the game! Local co-op made the game easier to jump in with a friend, and as you’re two people fighting against the monsters is allegedly easier than playing alone, so it’s perfect for showcase. We wanted to make sure people were going to have a fun time trying the demo, so we thought of including a new feature: local co-op! Maybe enough interest to publish our game in Japan? We hope so!Īfter getting back home, we had to get ready for the local game fairs in Spain, FIMP (at Gijón, Asturies) and NiceOne Barcelona (Barcelona, Catalunya). This summer we went to Tokyo Game Show, and albeit we didn’t have a booth to show the game on floor, we held various meetings with local and global publishers who showed great interest in the game’s concept. Turn your foes into allies using the forbidden powers of the Sword of the Necromancer and help Tama reach the dungeon's depths in order to gain enough power to bring Koko back from the dead. Anyway, we well try to be more consistent with updates!Īs you know, we are currently working on our latest project Sword of the Necromancer, and part of that work is to showcase the game at events. Sword of the Necromancer is a dungeon-crawler action RPG with Rogue-like elements where you can revive your defeated enemies to make them fight alongside you. The feature works well on Nintendo Switch. So long since we last updated this blog! We should do it more often but honestly, it’s pretty low on our current priority list (and we have a lot of work to do!). One thing that could have been done better is the actual look of the dungeons. Sword of the Necromancy is not an easy game, but having such an engaging story be the reward for getting farther and farther into the dungeon made all of the deaths worth it. There is also a local co-op component to bring a friend with you on your journey. Having the story given to the players like this, while common, is a stroke of genius. It really feels like the game has no right to try to be a roguelike and should of been a nice little adventure game. The only roguelike features are procedural generation, random item tables and random enemies, but the pools are far too small to be interesting. You’ll have to summon them again when you enter a new room. The rooms are big enough that the summoned monsters may lose track of you and stay in one place. Monsters that you raise from the dead gain levels alongside you. Saved equipment can be upgraded to help you on your journey. You can save equipment at the end of each level. Players only have four active inventory slots which must be shared between weapons, potions, and any enemies you’ve revived. The game also features some weird inventory management choices.
Most of the weapons you find are slower to swing than the titular Sword of the Necromancer.
I get the feeling the developers were trying to mimic the heavy, weighted combat of the Dark Souls series. The actual gameplay is very slow compared to most other roguelites.
